Debut Single
There is an inner child in all of us, and if we're too adaptive to the world around us, that child can get buried so deep within that it is no longer recognizable. The pressures of life will weigh us down if we don't actively pursue uninhibited joy, true passion, and boundless hope.
For years I hid a very real and creative part of myself out of fear or concern about whether other people would accept it. I headed down an expected and entirely satisfactory path... college, a salaried job, graduate school... Please understand that I am not knocking any of these things. They have all sown into the fabric of who I am today, and I wouldn't trade them for the world. But somewhere along the way, I started to feel like there was something missing. At one point I was so bogged down in "the everyday" that I was out of touch with the truest parts of myself. That is when this song emerged. It was the first song I had written in years, and it's incredibly important to me. I hope that when you listen it brings you joy, and that you will join me on the journey to intentionally, persistently, and joyously plug into our true selves.
Lyrics
(Intro)
Will this road take me where I wanna go
Where that is I have to say I really don't know
(Verse)
I've been workin' hard just like I'm s'posed to
But these 60 hour weeks they don't come free
I try to be my best for everyone and everything
But somewhere along this path I'm losin' me
I can't remember the last time I wrote music
Or picked up my guitar and played a tune
Trust me I know that I'm no Elvis
But that's somethin' that I always loved to do
(Chorus)
Now I gotta get back to her
To that little girl
She smiles at me in photographs
Says why are you so serious
She's beggin' me to come back home
(Verse)
I'm so thankful I got to go to college
25 years old with 2 degrees
But life's not only about what's on that paper
I wanna see how far these legs will carry me
(Chorus)
'Cause I gotta get back to her
To that little girl
She's teasin' me in photographs
Says why are you so serious
She's beggin' me to come back home
(Breakdown)
Will this road take me where I wanna go
Where that is I have to say I really don't know
I'm driving now
Hoping somewhere there's something to be found
Everything in me says I gotta get out
(Chorus)
Get out and get back to her
To that little girl
She stares at me in photographs
Her shining eyes delirious
She's beggin' me to come back home
