Just Cause I Can 3:440:00/3:44
This song is for anyone who has ever felt small. I poured my heart and soul into these lyrics, drawing from a variety of personal experiences with things that have felt like giants - larger than life, impossible to overcome. This song is about coming out of hiding, evolving from that place of smallness and discovering new perspective. It's about realizing the power we all hold within us to rise up and face whatever might come our way. I know the giants will continue to loom overhead and try to threaten the life I'm building for myself and my community. But I also know the giants only have as much power as I yield to them, and I'm learning more and more every day how to embrace my own lyrics. Lyrics like:
Acting small just makes me good at lying.
Giants are make-believe.
I'm not afraid.
This song came from a deep yearning to live the life I claim to want for myself and others. A life of courage, boldness, and freedom. A life where we stop hiding in the shadows and start skipping in the light. I hope you'll allow me to sing these lyrics over you, and that as I do you will start to feel your own inner strength rising up. I hope that you will start to believe that you are, in fact, a giant. I hope that this song will be a marker in your life, a moment where you decide to stop acting small, to stop lowering your head in shame or inadequacy, and to start holding your head up high and walking confidently in the light.
Your sweatshirt falling off my shoulder
It's too big but then again it always was
When did I become so small living in your shadow
I don't fill this space at all feels like I've been swallowed
Don't take too much space my mind said
Shrink so I don't risk anything
Better to be safe than to be sorry
Well I'm sorry I don't feel safe around giants
Maybe it's time I come out of hiding
Acting small just makes me good at lying
Just so you could think that you're the giant
Your cologne washing off my shoulders
It's overpowering but then again it always was
Now that I am coming clean shedding everything but me
Renewing all my skin tell me are you panicking
Baby do you feel safe around giants
Cause I think it's time I come out of hiding
Acting small just makes me good at lying
Just so you could think that you're the giant
But you're no giant
Don't take too much space my mind said
Shrink so I don't risk anything
Trying to protect me but I know now
That giants are make-believe
They're make-believe
So I don't feel afraid around no giants (They're make-believe)
And I know it's time I come out of hiding (They're make-believe)
Acting small just makes me good at lying
(Acting small just makes me good at lying)
But you're no giant (You were only giant in my mind)
No there are no giants
Giants are make-believe (I'm not afraid)
They're make-believe (I'm not afraid)
Giants are make-believe (Acting small just makes me good at lying)
Giants are make-believe (Acting small just makes me good at lying)
Giants are make-believe
Giants are just make-believe
